{"id":57640,"date":"2017-12-15T09:33:40","date_gmt":"2017-12-15T07:33:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=57640"},"modified":"2017-12-15T09:33:40","modified_gmt":"2017-12-15T07:33:40","slug":"sho-baraka-set-to-perform-in-malawi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/12\/15\/sho-baraka-set-to-perform-in-malawi\/","title":{"rendered":"Sho Baraka set to perform in Malawi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>American Christian rapper Sho Baraka, real name Amisho Baraka Lewis, will perform at Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC) on Sunday, when he will share the stage with local acts.<br \/>\nBefore the BCC show, the American Christian rapper will perform at Gateway Mall in Lilongwe tomorrow at a free event.<br \/>\nThe American artist will also share the stage with Zambian hip hop artist and producer Mag 44.<br \/>\nThe gospel show has been organised by Flood Church.<br \/>\nFlood Church pastor, Yamikani Kalizang\u2019oma, said yesterday that all was set for the gospel show.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a gospel show we, as Flood Church and our sister church in Lilongwe, thought of putting up. We will, first, hold it tomorrow before coming down to Blantyre,\u201d Kalizang\u2019oma said.<br \/>\nHe said they believe in creating authentic environments where young people can engage in conversations of faith and hope.<br \/>\n\u201cAnd this being December, it\u2019s a brilliant way to celebrate with friends and family while enjoying beautiful music from all over the world and that\u2019s USA, Zambia and Malawi,\u201d Kalizang\u2019oma said.<br \/>\nIt is not the first time for Flood Church to organise such a show. In May this year, they also brought US Christian rapper, Da Truth, alongside South Africa\u2019s Lilly Million.<br \/>\nKalizang\u2019oma said they invited Sho Baraka and Mag44 because they understand what it means to live out their faith in this generation.<br \/>\n\u201cThey are both passionate about fighting injustice and encouraging others to use their gifts as well. They have worked together before and, so, through them we want people to have a great experience with sounds from Malawi, USA and Zambia,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nPastor Kalizang\u2019oma said the two artists will jet into the country today ahead of their performances on Sunday.<br \/>\nBorn on January 10 1979, Sho Baraka, who is also a writer, has recorded both independently and as a founding member of the 116 Clique.<br \/>\nAccording to available information, Sho Baraka was originally signed to Reach Records until he left in March 2011.<br \/>\nHe then co-founded a record label and group known as High Society with fellow Christian rappers J.R., Swoope, and Suzy Rock.<br \/>\nHis debut album Turn My Life Up was released in November 2007 while his second, Lions and Liars, was released in March 2010.<br \/>\nHis third album, Talented Xth, was released in January 2013 with his fourth album, The Narrative, being released in October 2016.<br \/>\nSome of the local acts performing at the show include Suffix, Jewcha, Progain<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Christian rapper Sho Baraka, real name Amisho Baraka Lewis, will perform at Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC) on Sunday, when he will share the stage with local acts.
