{"id":57422,"date":"2017-12-10T07:30:27","date_gmt":"2017-12-10T05:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=57422"},"modified":"2017-12-10T07:30:28","modified_gmt":"2017-12-10T05:30:28","slug":"church-firm-on-stance-against-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/12\/10\/church-firm-on-stance-against-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Church firm on stance against abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> The  Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) and the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) have reiterated their stance against abortion, saying the killing of unborn babies is not only against culture, beliefs and laws but also a threat to human life.<br \/>\nOn December 6, 2016, EAM and ECM, organised a march against abortion, in what was called \u2018Citizen March for Life and Family\u2019.<br \/>\nA year after the march, ECM and EAM, have issued a statement in which they have stated that the church will remain steadfast in defending life and the family from cultural imperialism and the culture of death.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile rape, incest, and defilement are undesirable, evil and sinful acts in the eyes of God, the killing of unborn children (abortion) resulting from such cases has no Biblical or human rights basis therefore should not be condoned in anyway,\u201d reads the statement.<br \/>\nIt has been signed by ECM Secretary General Father Henry Saindi and EAM Secretary General, Reverend Francis Mkandawire.<br \/>\n\u201cStiffening penalties against perpetrators of such crimes, giving spiritual and psycho-social support to the affected women and children born from such situations should be prioritised rather than seeking remedies to promote culture of death,\u201d the statement further reads.<br \/>\nECM has appealed to the conscience of Members of Parliament to always remember that their duty is to pass laws which are in line with the country\u2019s culture, beliefs and values.<br \/>\n\u201cIn conscience, they have the obligation to formulate and pass laws which promote and defend life,\u201d reads the statement.<br \/>\nThe church has since developed a roadmap towards cultural decolonisation of the family in Malawi which include a commitment to expose, and fight against the evils and multiple dimensions of the sex revolution and the devastation it has caused on the family among others.<br \/>\nDuring last year\u2019s march, Christians from the two mother bodies in all the major cities and districts in Malawi went to the streets against abortion and homosexuality.
