{"id":57298,"date":"2017-12-07T07:38:14","date_gmt":"2017-12-07T05:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=57298"},"modified":"2017-12-07T07:38:16","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T05:38:16","slug":"rainbow-paints-league-to-end-jan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/12\/07\/rainbow-paints-league-to-end-jan\/","title":{"rendered":"Rainbow Paints League to end Jan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> The Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League season will spill over to next year after several games were not played due to players\u2019 national team engagements.<br \/>\nThe league, which supplies the bulk of players who feature for the Queens, had initially planned to conclude its season this year.<br \/>\nCurrently, defending champions Kukoma Diamonds, Thunder Queens and Tigresses are engaged in a three-horse race for the league title.<br \/>\nThe league\u2019s General Secretary, Annie Hanjahanja, said it will be difficult to conclude the league this season because of factors such as tight national team commitments.<br \/>\nHanjahanja pointed out that the Queens\u2019 assignments compelled the league\u2019s organisers to exempt several teams from games in the past weeks.<br \/>\n\u201cAs such, we could not allocate games to teams whose players were with the national team. We have tried fixing midweek games but it has not helped much. So, we cannot conclude the season before the year ends.<br \/>\n\u201cWe tried our best but there are several games to go before we wrap up the season. When it comes to issues of national interest, we do not compromise. That is why we did not fix games involving teams that had players in national team camp,\u201d Hanjahanja said.<br \/>\nThe Malawi national netball team recently took part in a three-match Test Series in England where they spent almost two weeks.<br \/>\nThe Queens also participated in the Fast5 Netball World Series in Melbourne, Australia, in October, which also affected the league\u2019s fixture.<br \/>\nHanjahanja said the forthcoming Presidential Netball Cup national finals wiould also contribute to the further delay of the league\u2019s conclusion.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, games continue today at the Blantyre Youth Centre where Polytechnic will date Thunder Queens whereas Young Professionals will meet Kukoma Diamonds.<br \/>\nTomorrow, Polytechnic entertain Kukoma Diamonds while Chilomoni Sisters would face Tigresses.<br \/>\nThere is more action on Saturday, with Gerald Tasaukadala facing Young Professionals whereas Thunder Queens would take on Serenity Stars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League season will spill over to next year after several games were not played due to players\u2019 national team engagements.
