{"id":57224,"date":"2017-12-06T09:18:40","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T07:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=57224"},"modified":"2017-12-06T09:18:40","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T07:18:40","slug":"waya-pleads-for-more-friendlies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/12\/06\/waya-pleads-for-more-friendlies\/","title":{"rendered":"Waya pleads for more friendlies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi national netball team Head Coach, Mary Waya, has pleaded for more international friendly matches ahead of next year\u2019s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast City, Australia.<br \/>\nThe Queens returned last Friday from England where they played three strength-testing matches against England\u2019s Roses.<br \/>\nDespite losing all the three matches, Waya said she was happy with the team\u2019s performance.<br \/>\n\u201cNow that we are back home, we are asking Nam (Netball Association of Malawi) to ensure that they prepare more international friendlies for the team. We need to play teams like New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and others. We will need to test ourselves against these teams as they have proved to be hard nuts to crack,\u201d Waya said.<br \/>\nThe team\u2019s Captain, Joanna Kachilika, concurred with her coach, but said, in the meantime, the team should prioritise working on weaknesses spotted in the England matches.<br \/>\nNam General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said the association is already working on securing friendly matches to ensure that the Queens remain in shape for the Games.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are already planning to engage some big teams to help us prepare well. I cannot mention the teams at the moment because we are still negotiating [with them].<br \/>\n\u201cBut playing England was also part of engaging competitive teams for our Commonwealth Games preparations.
