{"id":57220,"date":"2017-12-06T08:54:05","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T06:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=57220"},"modified":"2017-12-06T08:54:05","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T06:54:05","slug":"chimasula-misses-miss-university-africa-crown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/12\/06\/chimasula-misses-miss-university-africa-crown\/","title":{"rendered":"Chimasula misses Miss University Africa crown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>University of Malawi \u2013 Chancellor College\u2014student, Epylen Chimasula, missed the Miss University Africa 2017 crown which went to Marir Lorriane Nadal from Mauritius on Saturday.<br \/>\nThe fifth edition of Miss University Africa was held in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.<br \/>\nContestants from 54 African countries competed for the crown.<br \/>\nNadal succeeded Lesotho, as the reigning Miss University Africa Queen.<br \/>\nShe was crowned by Eberechi Wike.<br \/>\nAccording to available information, the performances of Miss University Africa 2017 contestants were evaluated by a panel of judges while broadcaster and journalist Soni Irabor was the lead judge.<br \/>\nBut despite missing the crown, which saw Nadal walk away with, among other prizes, $10,000 and a car, Chimasula got a medal as the most behaved queen in the camp.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s sad I didn\u2019t come out top but I tried my best and I am also happy that I got a medal as the most well behaved queen in the camp,\u201d Chimasula said.<br \/>\nShe said Nadal won because of her performance on stage.<br \/>\n\u201cThere are a lot of lessons I have learnt and now I want to be the ambassador of the organisation in Malawi,\u201d Chimasula said.<br \/>\nShe was expected to leave Nigeria yesterday.<br \/>\nAccording to media reports, Miss University Africa (Somalia) was the first runner up while Miss University Africa (Nigeria) emerged second runner-up.<br \/>\nThe reports also indicate that Chimasula did not make it into the top 11.<br \/>\nApart from the winner and the first runner up and second runner up, others who made it to the top 11 include Miss University Africa (Eriteria), Miss University Africa ( Tunisia), Miss University Africa (Gambia) and Miss University Africa (Ethiopia).<br \/>\nChimasula left the country in November.<br \/>\nShe said the core values of the Miss University Africa are to celebrate African culture and African women.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is a very good platform because it aims at promoting girl child education but also promoting culture among African youths,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nThe 21-year-old student, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, said it was the first time for her to participate in the contest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>University of Malawi \u2013 Chancellor College\u2014student, Epylen Chimasula, missed the Miss University Africa 2017 crown which went to Marir Lorriane Nadal from Mauritius on Saturday.
