Flames midfield maestro, Robert Ng\u2019ambi, has given his compatriots Micium Mhone and Muhammad Sulumba a word of advice as they prepare to strike a deal with newly-promoted South African Premier Soccer League side Jomo Cosmos.<\/p>\n
Over the years, Malawi has lost good talent after the players failed to fulfill their potential after trekking to the Rainbow Nation.<\/p>\n
Examples are plenty with Peter Mgangira, Chiukepo Msowoya, Joseph Kamwendo and Dave Banda topping the list.<\/p>\n
Only a few have made an indelible mark in the South African League and Robert Ng\u2019ambi is one of the rare species.<\/p>\n
\u2018Baggio\u2019, as he is fondly called by his admirers, has given Sulumba and Mhone a vote of confidence that they could make it in the Premier Soccer League.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is crucial to success is discipline and patience. In the first season, it is always hard to win a place therefore, the player needs to fight hard to earn a place. After a frustrating first season, it is always crucial not to lose focus and concentrate on improving the performance to win a place in the second season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHard work is also paramount because competition is high in South Africa. They (players) do not need to get carried away even if they are doing well.\u201d<\/p>\n
On whether the big financial rewards of playing professional football contribute to the players\u2019 slump in performance, Ng\u2019ambi said players need to keep their heads down all the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey need to love the game. Of course, there is a lot of money, but they have to keep on loving the game just like all the world superstars do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have played with Micium at the national team for some time and he is a good player. He also did well at the Cosafa Cup. I have only watched Sulumba once but he is an equally good player. They have what it takes to make it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sulumba and Mhone are set to sign three-year deals with Jomo Cosmos after passing the trials they underwent a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
