Dwangwa United Team Manager, Davie Mwandira, has said his side is targeting a top-eight finish in the TNM Super League.
\nDwangwa struggled for a good part of the league\u2019s first round, resulting in the sacking of head coach Macdonald Mtetemera who was replaced with former Nyasa Big Bullets coach, Lloyd Nkhwazi.
\nThe lakeshore side lies 12th on the log table with 31 points from 27 games.
\nMwandira said, based on the team\u2019s performance in recent games, including the 2-0 win over Mafco, there is a general belief that a top eight finish is possible.
\n\u201cWe sat down as a team and agreed to set targets for ourselves. We are now fighting to achieve those goals. It is possible for us to win our remaining games and take advantage of any slippages by teams that are above us on the log table. That is how we intend to break into the top eight,\u201d Mwandira said.
\nBut while Dwangwa continue to harbour ambitions of making the top eight, one of the oldest teams in the league, Azam Tigers, has given up on the possibility of making the grade.
\nTigers Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, said his team\u2019s performance has slumped in recent matches; hence, finishing in the top eight is not possible.
\n\u201cWe have a game to wind up the season but we are on position 11 with 31 points. We must admit that, this year, nothing worked for us. It has been a disappointing year because we are always used to being among the top eight teams and it is sad that we are finishing outside the top eight, especially at this time when we are looking for sponsors,\u201d Alufandika said.
