Confederation of African Volleyball Zone VI Executive Committee has reversed its decision to strip Zimbabwe of hosting rights for this year\u2019s Zone VI Senior Volleyball Club Championship.<\/p>\n
Last week, the zone announced that the tournament had been transferred to Malawi after the political turmoil in Zimbabwe that led to the resignation of president, Robert Mugabe, and the swearing-in of Emerson Mnangagwa in his place on Friday.<\/p>\n
The zone\u2019s General Secretary, Khalid Kassam, said, after assessing the situation in Zimbabwe, organisers were convinced that there is no threat to hosting the event in that country.<\/p>\n
\u201cMalawi wanted to host the tournament next year and only came into the picture because of the situation in Zimbabwe. We felt that it would be unfair to stop Zimbabwe from hosting the competition when peace and calm has been restored in the country,\u201d Kassam said.<\/p>\n
Volleyball Association of Malawi General Secretary, Jairos Nkhoma, said they have accepted the zone\u2019s decision pertaining to the competition which kicks off on December 7.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhatever decision the zone makes is for the good of the game. Our friends in Zimbabwe really want the tournament [to be hosted] there and we understand them. Our turn will come next year,\u201d Nkhoma said.<\/p>\n
Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and Moyale are set to represent Malawi at the showpiece in the men\u2019s and ladies\u2019 categories, respectively.<\/p>\n
KB General Secretary, Alvin Sambo, said the changes would not affect their preparations as the budget for the trip is ready.<\/p>\n
While Moyale would debut at the event, KB last played at the tournament in 2015, when they lost all their games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
