Chimasula, who in September asked for votes from people<\/a> so that she could excel in the competition, said yesterday that people were still voting.<\/p>\n\u201cPeople are still voting [for contestants] but I am happy to represent Malawi in the competition. It\u2019s amazing. Every day, we are learning something new,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The participants recently presented gifts to the governor of River State in Nigeria and Chimasula indicated she presented a painting that symbolises unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cI gave the governor the painting to thank him for the unity he has brought amongst people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
According to her, there are 50 contestants.<\/p>\n
Chimasula will be in Nigeria, where is participating in the competition, until December 5.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are having the finals on December 3 and that is when they will choose the queen. I am looking forward to the finals and I hope to do well and make history for Malawi,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chimasula said she was grateful and that it was an honour for her to be part of the competition.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have learned a lot in the activities we are doing and, apart from that, I have networked with other contestants and made friendships. I am proud to be exposed to the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chimasula left the country on November 16.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just want to thank Malawians for the support,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chimasula said the core value of Miss University Africa is to celebrate African culture and African women.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a very good platform because it aims at promoting girl-child education but also promoting culture among African youths,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The 21-year-old student, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, said it was the first time for her to participate in the contest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is my first time. I actually got into it through a family friend and then downloaded the forms and sent them with pictures while wearing different attire,\u201d Chimasula said.<\/p>\n
She said, among the requirements, one has to be between the ages of 18 and 26 years, have no marriage experience and children and be an active university student.<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually met the criteria. There were a lot of university students who sent forms but never qualified,\u201d Chimasula said.<\/p>\n
Miss University Africa is an annual event that brings together 54 countries to one event.<\/p>\n
