{"id":56914,"date":"2017-11-29T22:34:09","date_gmt":"2017-11-29T20:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=56914"},"modified":"2017-11-29T22:34:09","modified_gmt":"2017-11-29T20:34:09","slug":"saulos-chilima-preaches-against-violence-against-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/11\/29\/saulos-chilima-preaches-against-violence-against-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Saulos Chilima preaches against violence against women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice-President Saulos Chilima Tuesday condemned gender-based violence, saying the country should tackle power imbalances between men and women to address the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the launch of an Oxfam Ending Violence Against Women and Girls campaign in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Chilima said that it is pathetic that some men abuse women after they turn down their love proposals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe campaign against gender-based violence must tackle real issues that manifest in the power imbalance between men and women,\u201d Chilima said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government is committed to ending violence against women in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Archbishop Tarsizio Ziyaye of the Lilongwe Archdiocese, who represented the church community at the event, said the church should take a leading role in ending cases of gender-based violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReligious leaders should be praying for their people in order for them to change their hearts to end violence against women and girls,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Oxfam Country Director, John Makina, said ending cases of violence against women and girls campaign was launched to end cases of violence against women.<\/p>\n<p>The launch has come at a time the world is observing 16 Days of Activism on Violence against Women which runs up to December 10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice-President Saulos Chilima Tuesday condemned gender-based violence, saying the country should tackle power imbalances between men and women to address the problem.
