{"id":56595,"date":"2017-11-23T10:10:51","date_gmt":"2017-11-23T08:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=56595"},"modified":"2017-11-23T10:10:51","modified_gmt":"2017-11-23T08:10:51","slug":"paralympic-finals-at-bingu-stadium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/11\/23\/paralympic-finals-at-bingu-stadium\/","title":{"rendered":"Paralympic finals at Bingu Stadium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National paralympic finals\u2014a multi-sports event for disabled athletes\u2014are scheduled to take place at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Hosts Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC) President, James Chiutsi, said 30 finalists will be drawn from all the regions. The qualifying games took place in 16 districts.<\/p>\n<p>The finals follow a Paralympic Awareness and Athlete Development programme which MPC has been running since last September, courtesy of the support of International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Malawi National Council of Sports.<\/p>\n<p>He said the programme was aimed at creating awareness on the importance of involving people with disabilities in sports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe tournament targeted under-20 visually-impaired athletes from all over Malawi. The launch was at Montfort School for the Blind, followed by the training of all administrators involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitially, the programme intended to identify about 100 visually- impaired athletes, but there was massive interest that saw about 400 athletes taking part in the games,\u201d Chiutsi said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, IPC and China Council of Lions Clubs officials are in the country to appreciate the work of MPC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National paralympic finals\u2014a multi-sports event for disabled athletes\u2014are scheduled to take place at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday.
