{"id":56483,"date":"2017-11-20T12:51:12","date_gmt":"2017-11-20T10:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=56483"},"modified":"2017-11-20T12:51:13","modified_gmt":"2017-11-20T10:51:13","slug":"lilongwe-city-council-shifts-pacs-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/11\/20\/lilongwe-city-council-shifts-pacs-march\/","title":{"rendered":"Lilongwe City Council shifts Pac\u2019s march"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The march to present a petition to President Peter Mutharika and Speaker of Parliament on Electoral Reforms Bill and amendment of the Local Government Act by the Public Affairs Committee (Pac) has been shifted to Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the march was scheduled to take place Tuesday but according to communication from the Lilongwe City Council to Pac, which <em>The Daily Times <\/em>has seen, the march has been rescheduled in order to give enough time for the council to prepare for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Through an email, Lilongwe City Council\u2019s Director of Administration, Stalichi Mwambiwa, told Pac that based on the council\u2019s current working procedures, there is need for a meeting between the council and parties involved in the march to strategise before the march takes place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs discussed and based on our current working procedures, when the Council receives such notifications, we convene a special meeting attended by the police, council officials and the representatives of the party [ies] organising the march. Currently, we can meet on Monday 20\/11\/2017 to strategize on your course of action. We therefore seek your highest consideration to reschedule the march to preferably Thursday, 23\/11\/2017. This will enable all parties have enough time based on the agreement to be drawn from our meeting on Monday, 20\/11\/2017,\u201d reads part of the email.<\/p>\n<p>Pac Publicity Secretary, Peter Mulomole, said the committee will do everything in its jurisdiction to ensure that these bills are tabled in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMalawians have spoken and we represent the people so we are going to continue with our efforts to ensure that these bills are eventually tabled in Parliament,\u201d Mulomole said.<\/p>\n<p>Pac\u2019s Executive Committee members, who met last week, agreed to petition Mutharika on the Electoral Reforms Bill<\/p>\n<p>The development comes after leader of Opposition in Parliament, Lazarus Chakwera, threatened that MCP Members of Parliament would boycott Parliament deliberations if the bills do not make it to the august House.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The march to present a petition to President Peter Mutharika and Speaker of Parliament on Electoral Reforms Bill and amendment of the Local Government Act by the Public Affairs Committee (Pac) has been shifted to Thursday.
