Malawi\u2019s own sport invention, gendaball, has been introduced at Kachere Rehabilitation Centre in Blantyre to speed up recovery of patients.<\/p>\n
Ethiopia-based Malawian diplomat, Francis Mwalabu, invented the sport whose scoring involves sinking a ball onto a holed wall.<\/p>\n
Gendaball facilitator, Hamilton Kadyeremwana, said the sport was designed to provide entertainment to all outdoor sports lovers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe felt that we should take the sport to Kachere Rehabilitation to entertain patients and also help them recover quickly. We are trying to market the sport and this is one way of marketing the sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kadyeremwana said they were contemplating launching the sport countrywide next month.<\/p>\n
Gendaball is played using a soft ball, slightly bigger than the size of a cricket ball, which is thrown directly onto a target board comprising 16 holes of varying sizes and values.<\/p>\n
The ball is thrown from a playing court comprising 10 throw stations.<\/p>\n
\u201cGendaball is a game of target-shooting using one hand to propel the ball towards the holes on the target board. The level of ease or difficulty of playing gendaball is a factor of both the sizes of the holes and the distances from which the ball is thrown.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe bigger the hole, the easier it is for the ball to enter through, but the less the points one gets. Inversely, the smaller the hole, the more difficult it is for the ball to enter through,\u201d Kadyeremwana said.<\/p>\n
Kachere official, Bester Kamakanda, who heads the physiotherapy department, welcomed the sport.<\/p>\n
