Musician and former Big Brother Africa (BBA) representative Code Sangala, now known as C.O., will tomorrow perform at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre as part of a malaria tour project.<\/p>\n
The singer and guitarist of the \u2018Mukunama\u2019 fame is in a fundraising drive for the Pediatric Accidents and Emergency Ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
C.O., who has been involved in malaria projects for some time, is seeking to raise K10 million of the estimated budget of K30 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou may recall that I have been involved in the malaria project for sometime but, then, at first, the focus was on prevention in general but now the focus is on children,\u201d C.O. said.<\/p>\n
He said he decided to take a particular interest in children because they are the future of the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cChildren have to be healthy. However, one of the diseases putting them at risk is malaria. And the situation is not healthy at the moment as noticed at QECH. There is need for, among other necessities, space,\u201d the musician said.<\/p>\n
He said, after holding discussions with QECH, he was given the go ahead to hold fundraising shows with the official concert at JCC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe target is the Pediatric Accidents and Emergency Ward because there are more children there with different cases including malaria. This is the official show although I started these concerts sometime back,\u201d C.O. said.<\/p>\n
C.O. and his The Tribe Band will be performing at JCC tomorrow, having entertained people at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa on November 4 during the free Tumaini Festival.<\/p>\n
He will share the stage with ethno-musician Waliko Makhala, who also performed at Tumaini Festival, as well as female singer and guitarist Annemarie Quinn from the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a concert which will start on time; it\u2019s not a phungwe and, as such, people need to keep time. Otherwise, they will miss out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Maison de la France and JCC Deputy Director, Daisy Belfield, said they were excited to host the concert since it is for a good cause.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very excited to host our first acoustic concert, to christen our new sound, lighting and stage equipment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will be the first of many \u2018concerts with a purpose\u2019, as part of our mission to celebrate Malawian culture while, at the same time, raising funds for urgent ethical projects in Malawi,\u201d Belfield said.<\/p>\n
She said C.O. was working with Dr Josephine Langton to raise funds for the Pediatric Accident and Emergency Ward at QECH.<\/p>\n
