Blantyre CCAP Synod General Secretary Reverend Alex Maulana has urged the Church in Malawi to start focusing on meeting both physical and emotional needs of the flock if people\u2019s spiritual lives are to improve.<\/p>\n
He said this at a dedication ceremony of a house Christians from Saint Columba CCAP in Blantyre have built for a 77-year-old widow, Leah Harawa, in Zingwangwa Township.<\/p>\n
Harawa lost a house and most of her belongings to the devastating rains that hit parts of the country earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Maulana described the donation as part of efforts by the CCAP to reach out to physical needs of its members.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven when Jesus Christ was on earth, he always made sure that he fed the hungry before sending them home. That is why initiatives like these by the Church need to be encouraged,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Maulana then commended the St Columba\u2019s gesture, saying the house, which is worth K5.4 million, will go a long way in changing Gogo Harawa\u2019s life and that of her family.<\/p>\n
Said Maulana: \u201cAs CCAP Blantyre Synod, we wish to commend St Columba CCAP congregation for the great work that they are doing to support the life and work of the Synod through outreach works like these.\u201d<\/p>\n
Initially, the idea to construct the house for the widow was first conceived by the St Columba CCAP Women\u2019s Guild before the whole church adopted the initiative.<\/p>\n
Early this year, the congregation spent over K1 million through its Social Welfare Committee to renovate houses of Christians and non- Christian community members which were damaged by the devastating rains.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
