Lesotho national football team Coach, Moses Maliehe, has advised his Flames counterpart, Ronny van Geneugden, to drill his charges on attacking so as to score more goals.<\/p>\n
The Likuena mentor made the remarks after the Flames held his side to a 1-1 draw in a strength-testing match at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe team knocks the ball around but their problem is that they do not play forward passes more often, which means [that] they do not attack more often because everybody wants to touch the ball. They must focus on playing forward passes,\u201d Maliehe said.<\/p>\n
The Lesotho Coach can be vindicated as the Flames have struggled to score since the Belgian took over in April.<\/p>\n
Out of 11 games in all competitions, the Flames have scored five goals only and conceded seven goals.<\/p>\n
Under the Belgian\u2019s reign, the Flames have defeated\u2014by 1-0 margins\u2014 Comoros Islands (Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier) and Togo in a friendly match, lost to Madagascar and Tanzania and drawn seven games.<\/p>\n
However, van Geneugden was optimistic of doing well against Morocco in the Afcon qualifiers next year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must be more efficient in our defensive area, also build up and convert [the] chances we create. The focus must be there in Morocco, but I think this is a good learning moment for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Former Flames striker Andrew Chikhosi said the team lacked coordination.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe started with a certain crop of players but now he [has]recalled some experienced players. So it was not easy for the team to play coordinated football. There was no cohesion against Lesotho and, sometimes, the players lacked confidence. I do not know what happened to them,\u201d Chikhosi said.<\/p>\n
In the game against Lesotho, the Belgian recalled Atusaye Nyondo, Chiukepo Msowoya, Chawanangwa Kawonga, Robin Ngalande and Schumacher Kuwali. Nyondo failed to convert two scoring chances.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
