{"id":55815,"date":"2017-11-08T08:42:16","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T06:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=55815"},"modified":"2017-11-08T08:42:16","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T06:42:16","slug":"afrima-finale-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/11\/08\/afrima-finale-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"Afrima finale Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year\u2019s All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) grand finale will be held on Sunday in Nigeria and the country\u2019s two nominees, Tay Grin and Dawson Kawerawera, will attend.<\/p>\n<p>Tay Grin, who has confirmed that he would perform at the event, is a nominee in the category of Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa for his song \u2018Tola\u2019, which features Tanzania\u2019s Vanessa Mdee.<\/p>\n<p>It is the first time for Tay Grin, who leaves the country tomorrow, to be nominated in the Afrima Awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am leaving on Thursday (tomorrow). I am also performing,\u201d Tay Grin said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The artist has been on song, holding parties in Blantyre and Lilongwe as part of celebrating his nomination.<\/p>\n<p>In the category, the maker of \u2018Chipapapa\u2019 \u2013 a song in which he collaborates with Nigeria\u2019s 2Face Idibia\u2014 is battling it out with, among others, South African artists Nasty C, Hugh Masekela, AKA and Emtee and Jah Prayzah from Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>The other nominee, Dawson, whose name is relatively new, is in the category of Songwriter of the Year for the track \u2018If I\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The other names in the category are Anselmoh Ralph, Karim Kharbouch, khalif Brown, Simi and Ogecha Diane Obande.<\/p>\n<p>This is also Dawson\u2019s first nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Dawson said he was happy to have received a nomination in the Afrima Awards and that he was hoping to claim the award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to winning. It would mean a great deal to me and it would also open the door for other Malawian artists. I am very excited,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dawson said his visa has been processed but was quick to say that it was not easy preparing for the trip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would very much love to get a chance to meet Davido, Yemi Alade and Simi. I am constantly inspired by their music,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The artist said he would leave for the event tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe song which got me the nomination is titled \u2018If I\u2019. I made a lyric video for it and my manager submitted the song to Afrima to be reviewed and it was nominated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dawson said, besides singing, he writes, sketches and also does poetry and dance.<\/p>\n<p>Musicians Zani Challe and Lawi were nominated in Afrima in 2016 and 2014, respectively, but they missed out on the awards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year\u2019s All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) grand finale will be held on Sunday in Nigeria and the country\u2019s two nominees, Tay Grin and Dawson Kawerawera, will attend.
