Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and Moyale Barracks Ladies retained Raiply National Volleyball Tournament titles for the men\u2019s and women\u2019s categories, respectively, after overcoming fellow soldiers in finals played in Mzuzu on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The three-day tournament started on Friday with 18 teams, but, in the end, KB met Moyale in the finals of both categories.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s clash, KB narrowly beat Moyale 3-2 to claim the title for a record fourth consecutive time.<\/p>\n
However, in the females\u2019 category, KB Ladies lost 3-0 to merciless Moyale Ladies.<\/p>\n
This was Moyale\u2019s second successive national volleyball title.<\/p>\n
The two winners have booked a place at the Zone VI Volleyball Championship scheduled for Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, next month.<\/p>\n
KB Captain, MacGodwin Mangani, said his side was ready to represent Malawi in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a tough ride against Moyale. It really showed how prepared they were to claim this championship. But, due to our experience, we showed them that we wanted to win this for the fourth time so as to set a new record,\u201d Mangani said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it comes to volleyball, we do not have a competitor in Malawi. We are looking forward to the Zone VI. So, we are just waiting for a go-ahead from Vam [Volleyball Association of Malawi] for them to fulfil their promise of helping us with some funds.\u201d<\/p>\n
His Moyale women\u2019s team counterpart, Evalistar Nthani, was equally delighted, but asked Vam to walk its talk on the sponsorship for the Zone VI Championship.<\/p>\n
Vam General Secretary, Jairos Nkhoma, said he was hopeful that the two teams would participate in the Zone VI.<\/p>\n
KB and Moyale received K600, 000 and K500, 000 cash prizes, respectively, and floating trophies.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Raiply Malawi Chief Executive Officer, Krishnadas, has said volleyball was an exciting sport that needs the support of the corporate world.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is our wish that we should continue supporting minority sport disciplines such as volleyball. Our aim is to ensure that people are coming together and fight bush fires in Chikangawa Forest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In individualing awards, Ken Kansasi of Thunders and Nthani were voted most valuable players for the championship.<\/p>\n
In the media category, Allan Nyirenda of Voice of Livingstonia Radio was voted the best radio reporter, whereas Pledge Jali of Nation Publications Limited and Alex Mwangosi of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation emerged winners in print and television categories, respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
