Kamuzu Academy Orchestra and Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Brass Band on Sunday treated people to an evening of classical and jazz music during a concert at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
It was a night when the gathering\u2014 which included Vice-President Saulos Chilima, and other high-ranking government officials, Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shi Ting Wang and Germany\u2019s Ambassador to Malawi Juergen Borsch\u2014 appreciated the beauty of brass instruments.<\/p>\n
Former official hostess Mama Cecilia Tamanda Kadzamira was also in attendance.<\/p>\n
Kamuzu Academy Director of Music, Donald Kaluwile, said the concert was an opportunity for his students to showcase their skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe purpose of having such concerts is to have musical education for the students, to interact with professionals and to provide stage for them so that they can showcase their talent,\u201d Kaluwile said.<\/p>\n
He added:<\/p>\n
\u201cBut since this was also a paying concert, we thought of directing the funds towards buying equipment for our orchestra.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kaluwile said he was hoping that the number of people in attendance would increase next year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy that, little by little, people are buying the concept of classical music. We hope that next year we will have more people in attendance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Levison Chisambi of the MDF said participating in the concert was good for both MDF and Kamuzu Academy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a word that birds of the same feathers flock together. We have learned from each other. Kamuzu Academy did well and we also did our best. We also do professional music. We wanted to showcase our skills and that is why we joined our friends,\u201d Chisambi said.<\/p>\n
During the concert, MDF Deputy Commander, Clement Namangale, announced a donation of K1 million to Kamuzu Academy Orchestra.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
