{"id":55292,"date":"2017-10-20T14:06:50","date_gmt":"2017-10-20T12:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=55292"},"modified":"2017-10-20T14:06:54","modified_gmt":"2017-10-20T12:06:54","slug":"armed-dpp-cadet-gets-bail-gun-goes-missing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/10\/20\/armed-dpp-cadet-gets-bail-gun-goes-missing\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed DPP cadet gets bail, gun goes missing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>P<\/strong>olice have released on bail Noel kaiya, the DPP cadet who was arrested last week for carrying a gun.<\/p>\n<p>Kaiya was pictured with a gun sheathed in his pair of trousers at a function in Thyolo where Ben Phiri, former aide to President Peter Mutharika, was launching K10 million sports trophies for football, bawo and netball.<\/p>\n<p>Police sources said that the cadet was released after police failed to trace the gun.<\/p>\n<p>Police arrested Kaiya on October 12 after his picture went viral on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Police sources, who asked for anonymity, confirmed his release from custody. A family member confirmed the release although National Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, expressed ignorance about the same when asked yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investigations are still ongoing. We are finding out whether the gun has a permit and he got it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Police sources, however, said Kaiya, aged 42, has since been charged with one count of being found in possession of military attire.<\/p>\n<p>Kaiya hails from Kwanjana Village, Traditional Authority Nchiramwera in Thyolo District.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Phiri, who is DPP Director of Operations, distanced himself from Kaiya when asked whether he was a member of his security detail at the function.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police have released on bail Noel kaiya, the DPP cadet who was arrested last week for carrying a gun.
