{"id":55059,"date":"2017-10-16T07:43:27","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T05:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=55059"},"modified":"2017-10-16T07:43:28","modified_gmt":"2017-10-16T05:43:28","slug":"gerald-phiri-names-uder-20-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/10\/16\/gerald-phiri-names-uder-20-squad\/","title":{"rendered":"Gerald Phiri names uder-20 squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>M<\/strong>alawi under-20 national football team Coach, Gerald Phiri senior, has gone for experience in his 28-member squad selection.<\/p>\n<p>The Junior Flames are preparing for the Cosafa Youth Championship scheduled for Zambia in December.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement which Football Association of Malawi released yesterday, the junior Flames are scheduled to start training at Mpira Village in Blantyre Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Phiri should be hoping for an improved display from his boys, who last year, during a similar tournament held in South Africa, fired blanks after failing to score in four games.<\/p>\n<p>Little wonder, Phiri has maintained first-choice goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa, who now plays for Blantyre United, alongside other players from last year\u2019s squad and the under-17 national team.<\/p>\n<p>Notable players in the squad are Hadji Wali, Levison Maganizo and Kondwani Mwaila of Silver Strikers, Be Forward Wanderers\u2019 Precious Sambani and Francisco Madinga.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Mike Mkwate from Nyasa Big Bullets has also been retained alongside Griffin Young Stars\u2019 attacker Peter Banda and Chitipa United\u2019s Abel Mwakilama.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi under-20 national football team Coach, Gerald Phiri senior, has gone for experience in his 28-member squad selection.
