{"id":54447,"date":"2017-10-03T08:03:01","date_gmt":"2017-10-03T06:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=54447"},"modified":"2017-10-03T08:03:05","modified_gmt":"2017-10-03T06:03:05","slug":"israel-kammwamba-loses-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/10\/03\/israel-kammwamba-loses-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel Kam\u2019mwamba loses in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>B<\/strong>udding lightweight boxer Israel K am\u2019mwamba\u2019s mission to claim the Commonwealth Africa title ended in defeat on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Kam\u2019mwamba lost to Nigerian Otto Joseph, who was declared the Commonwealth Africa lightweight champion after winning on unanimous points\u2019 decision at National Indoor Surulere Stadium in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>In the 10-round bout monitored on <em>Supersport Television <\/em>channel 209, all three judges scored in favour of the Nigerian 97-94, 98-92 and 97-92. Joseph is unbeaten in nine bouts.<\/p>\n<p>During the fight, the 23-year-old Malawian showcased good combinations but he failed to connect punches and score points.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Joseph was defensive and opted to counter Kam\u2019mwamba\u2019s punches with body shots.<\/p>\n<p>From round seven, it was obvious that both boxers were exhausted as they spent most of the time grabbing each other.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board spokesperson, Frank Chibisa, said Kam\u2019mwamba could have done better with good preparations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, by the time he got the offer, he was in camp preparing for a local fight. However, preparations do differ depending on a number of factors, including opponents\u2019 record, age and the nature of a fight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>It is the first time that Kam\u2019mwamba has lost in his professional career.
