{"id":54379,"date":"2017-10-02T08:56:23","date_gmt":"2017-10-02T06:56:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=54379"},"modified":"2017-10-02T08:56:23","modified_gmt":"2017-10-02T06:56:23","slug":"lilongwe-scoops-two-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/10\/02\/lilongwe-scoops-two-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Lilongwe\u2019 scoops two awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A movie titled <em>Lilongwe <\/em>by Joyce Mhango Chavula on Saturday scooped two awards at the Malawi Film Festival spearheaded by M-Theatres in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>Having claimed the Best Movie-Southern Africa award during the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) last year, <em>Lilongwe <\/em>underlined its strength by winning two awards.<\/p>\n<p>The movie scooped the Best Feature Film Award and Best Director.<\/p>\n<p>Mhango Chavula wrote on her Facebook page that she was excited that the movie has been recognised at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels great to be honoured at home. I really had an awesome time and I commend the organisers for such a great initiative,\u201d the actress and filmmaker said.<\/p>\n<p>Tapiwa Gwaza was voted Best Actress for her role in <em>My Mother\u2019s Story. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Best Actor Award went to Haspeck Sauti.<\/p>\n<p>The judges were Veronica Curtis, Thoko Tembo, Mbachi Ng\u2019oma and Chimwemwe Chikwana.<\/p>\n<p>M-Theatres proprietor, Sunduzwayo Jere, described the event as well organised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event was well organised but we have to admit that the patronage was poor,\u201d Jere said.<\/p>\n<p>Jere could not be drawn to say whether the event will come back next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to assess the impact, so, we can\u2019t make promises,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Jere said they were satisfied with the results and asked the industry to unite and work together if they are to develop further.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A movie titled Lilongwe by Joyce Mhango Chavula on Saturday scooped two awards at the Malawi Film Festival spearheaded by M-Theatres in Blantyre.
