V<\/strong>ice-President Saulos Chilima has called on Malawians to stop the tendency of bearing children anyhow and then surrendering responsibility.<\/p>\n

Chilima said the country\u2019s population is increasing at an alarming rate, and that there is need for everyone to be part of population control measures.<\/p>\n

He said parents are supposed to take care of their children at all times and, for good care to be possible, the number of children one has needs to be manageable.<\/p>\n

Chilima said the current projected population of 17 million is not sustainable and that indications that it may extremely grow by 2030 are bad news.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou do not bear children for the President, Member of Parliament, Councillor or church. They are your children. So, don\u2019t bear many children hoping others will be with you for their upbringing,\u201d Chilima said.<\/p>\n

He was speaking on Saturday when Mua Parish of the Catholic Church in Dedza celebrated 115 years since its establishment.<\/p>\n

The Vice-President also said people in the country should take care of the environment as the current trends are creating an unbearable life for the future generation.<\/p>\n

He also said it is high time Malawians stopped valuing foreign cultures and despising local culture.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was also meant to celebrate 50 years of priesthood for Father Claude Boucher Chisale, a Missionaries of Africa who has been conducting arts and culture projects at Mua Mission for 42 years.<\/p>\n

It also celebrated 25 years of serving for Catechist Simon Filimon Panyani.<\/p>\n

Boucher, a Canadian who adopted the Malawian name Chisale, said he feels to be more Malawian than Canadian and cherishes the 50 years of serving Malawi as both a priest and cultural values promoter.<\/p>\n

In his sermon, Dedza Diocese Bishop, Emmanuel Kanyama, said it is good to live a selfless life, as selfishness is the source of the evil deeds of mankind.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we think about the purpose of this creation, we may not be jealous of our friends; we may not be selfish,\u201d Kanyama said.<\/p>\n
