{"id":54045,"date":"2017-09-25T08:41:41","date_gmt":"2017-09-25T06:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=54045"},"modified":"2017-09-25T08:41:41","modified_gmt":"2017-09-25T06:41:41","slug":"gerald-phiri-grabs-his-chance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/09\/25\/gerald-phiri-grabs-his-chance\/","title":{"rendered":"Gerald Phiri grabs his chance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A<\/strong>fter a two-year wait in South Africa, Gerald Phiri junior made the most of his Bidvest Wits\u2019 debut, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Phiri, with his controversial compatriot Gabadinho Mhango relegated to the substitutes\u2019 bench for Wits, swept in the winner in the fifth minute.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first win of the season for Wits as they took their tally to five points from six games.<\/p>\n<p>Wits bounced back from Wednesday\u2019s 3-0 loss to AmaZulu in a match that turned ugly for Gabadinho who was accused of spitting at Michael Morton for the home team.<\/p>\n<p>However, Wits finally got it right on Saturday as Phiri\u2014 playing for the PSL champions for the first time since signing from Zimbabwe\u2019s Caps United in 2015\u2014reacted the fastest in the box, after Phumlani Ntshangase\u2019s long free-kick, to sweep the ball into the net.<\/p>\n<p>It was a reward for Phiri who spent the past two seasons on loan at Township Rollers in Botswana then at another PSL side Platinum Stars.<\/p>\n<p>In another game involving a Malawian, Flames Captain, Limbikani Mzava, stood firm in Golden Arrows\u2019 defence as the leaders drew 0-0 against Kaizer Chiefs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a two-year wait in South Africa, Gerald Phiri junior made the most of his Bidvest Wits\u2019 debut, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
