Revamped Thunder Queens will seek to underline their title credentials when they meet Tigresses in a Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League tie at Blantyre Youth Centre this afternoon.<\/p>\n
Thunder, after struggling for some years, have turned the corner and are now strong title challengers.<\/p>\n
Under the tutelage of last season\u2019s coach of the year, Christina Mkwanda-Nsinji, Thunder are unpredictable with their game-plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur strength lies in the fact that we are able to change the shape of the team. Most of my players have been trained to play in different positions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis helps us in times of injuries or any other crisis. But above all, it helps us to overcome stubborn opposition. In this case, we have the confidence that we can beat Tigresses,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Renowned goal-keeper-cum-defender, Joana Kachilika, can partner Emily Jere upfront, whereas Thandie Galeta is capable of shifting from centre-court to defence.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Tigresses are undergoing their own renaissance.<\/p>\n
The Kau Kau sisters have roped in youthful players, including shooter Awema Chikaonda and wing-defender Irene Kazembe, in view of the absence of key players such as shooter Sindie Simtowe- Msowoya and Captain, Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango.<\/p>\n
Wing-attacker, Beatrice Mpinganjira, is expected to link Tigresses defence with attack in today\u2019s game.<\/p>\n
Tigresses Team Manager, Helene Mpinganjira-Tasosa, said despite their shaky start to the season, they can still fight for the league title.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur focus this season is on building a strong team,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Second-placed Thunder, who have 18 points, trail leaders Kukoma Diamonds by three points. Tigresses are third with 16 points.<\/p>\n
