Evergreen striker Esau \u2018Black Mamba\u2019 Kanyenda scored his first goal for Be Forward Wanderers as they remained top after seeing off defending champions Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 Sunday.<\/p>\n
Wanderers have 38 points, one point ahead of second-placed Silver Strikers who defeated Premier Bet Wizards 1-0 through Matthew Sibale\u2019s strike in Lilongwe Sunday.<\/p>\n
However, Silver have played 17 games, one more than the Nomads, who recovered from their Carlsberg Cup misery to score in the 44th minute through Kanyenda\u2019s header from a free-kick at Balaka Stadium.<\/p>\n
Wanderers Coach, Yasin Osman, said he was impressed with his team\u2019s first-half performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy that we have won because we are assured of leading the log table but we also need to look at our performance. The absence of Isaac Kaliyati, who got ill just hours before kick-off, also affected our game-plan,\u201d Osman said.<\/p>\n
At Silver Stadium, Wizards, who lost 4-1 to Blue Eagles the previous day, matched Silver in many departments, but Sibale\u2019s goal made the difference.<\/p>\n
In a post-match reaction, Silver Team Manager, Francis Songo, was relieved with the victory.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe play similar type of football and they were better in midfield, but we are happy with three points,\u201d Songo said.<\/p>\n
But Wizards Head Coach, Trevor Kajawa, was disappointed with the loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe did well and I think the draw could have been a fair result for us,\u201d Kajawa said.<\/p>\n
