NYASA Big Bullets finally exorcised the demons that haunted them at the start of the TNM Super League when they beat Chitipa United 2-0 at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre yesterday to hand new Head Coach Rodgers Yasin a winning start.<\/p>\n
The hosts started the game strongly as they bossed possession and on numerous occasions invaded Chitipa\u2019s goal area.<\/p>\n
Despite dominating the proceedings, the People\u2019s Team was unable to create clear cut chances, hence relying on set pieces. Bullets deservedly went ahead through defender Emmanuel Zoya who headed home a corner kick in the 13th minute.<\/p>\n
Fischer Kondowe\u2019s corner kick was directed towards goal by Chiukepo Msowoya before Zoya guided the ball into the net with a far post header, beating goalkeeper Lloyd Munthali. But despite being a goal down, Chitipa finished the first half strongly as Abel Mwakilama and Alick Phiri made their presence felt, though they rarely troubled Bullets\u2019 second choice goalkeeper, Rabson Chiyenda.<\/p>\n
At the start of second half, Bullets rested Mussa Manyenje and handed Zimbabwean Silva Chawe his debut. Bullets continued to threaten the visitors but were frustrated by the impressive Munthali. But the Carlsberg Cup champions were not to be denied the second goal as Nelson Kangunje tapped in after Munthali had parried the ball towards the playmaker in the 62nd minute.<\/p>\n
Chitipa experienced a setback as they lost Munthali who fell awkwardly in his quest to cut out Fischer Kondowe\u2019s cross in the run up to the goal. He was replaced by Jeremiah Simfukwe who was equally impressive.<\/p>\n
Bullets also handed another debut to Andrew \u2018Bomber\u2019 Kamlete in the 73rd minute. Bullets Assistant Coach, Elia Kananji, said it was a perfect result as opposed to their miserable start in the first round.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe played well and the players followed instructions. We need to take each game as it comes,\u201d Kananji said. Chitipa Coach, Kondwani Mwalweni, said despite the loss, his side will still survive relegation. Bullets remain third with 31 points from 16 games whereas Chitipa are still bottom with 11 points from 17 games.<\/p>\n
In other matches played yesterday, Blue Eagles beat Premier Bet Wizards 4-1 at Nankhaka with goals from Chisomo Chilasa, Mphatso Filimoni\u2019s brace and another goal from Maxwell Salambula. Wizards scored their face saver through Patrick Phiri.<\/p>\n
Moyale were clobbered 3-0 by Civil Sporting Club at Civo Stadium as Righteous Banda, Fletcher Bandawe and Raphael Phiri ran riot. At Mzuzu Stadium, Gift Kasambara and Hudson Milanzi\u00a0 scored for Mzuni who beat Dwangwa United 2-0.
