Paramount Chief Gomani V has bemoaned the tendency among the youth who get sexually active while young, saying the trend increases the occurrence of cervical cancers and perpetuates poverty.<\/p>\n
Paramount Gomani said the youth should delay sexual activities to avoid teenage pregnancies and wait until they finish school.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Ntcheu during a Result-Based Financing for Maternal and Neonatal Health (RBF4MNH) sensatisation meeting targeting area development committee (ADC) members last Wednesday, Paramount Gomani said people should appreciate that getting sexually active while young brings dire consequences on the economy of a country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe population is increasing at an alarming rate and the importance of population management through delayed sexual activities and manageable families cannot be overemphasised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Gomani, who is RBF4MNH chair, called upon the youth to put school first so that they succeed in life.<\/p>\n
RBF4MNH Coordinator for Ntcheu, Bhima Nkutumula , dispelled reports that the money women receive as an incentive to deliver at hospital is satanic.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople should understand that this money is from Malawi Government donated graciously by governments of Norway and Germany to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity by encouraging pregnant women to deliver at health facilities,\u201d Nkutumula said.<\/p>\n
He said the programme seeks to provide better services, modern infrastructure, improve healthcare provider performance and the quality of maternal services.<\/p>\n
Senior Chief Kwataine called upon other chiefs to strengthen the existing by-laws on reproductive health within their communities and encourage men to escort their pregnant wives to ante-natal clinics.<\/p>\n
Ntcheu District adopted RBF4MNH in 2013 and 3400 pregnant women registered with the programme out of which 2000 qualified and accessed funds as rewards for attending ante-natal clinics, delivering at hospital and staying in hospital for at least 48hours after giving birth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
