Zimbabwe-based Caps United FC centre-back, George Nyirenda, has returned home and is on the verge of rejoining his former club Big Bullets FC.<\/p>\n
Reports from Zimbabwe indicate that a number of top league teams, including Caps United, are feeling the country\u2019s economic meltdown and are contemplating on releasing some of their foreign imports.<\/p>\n
The Daily Times crew, which visited Kamuzu Stadium on Tuesday, spotted the dreadlocked player training with the People\u2019s Team.<\/p>\n
He refused to comment on the prospects of returning to the reigning TNM Super League and Carlsberg Cup champions.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust give me two weeks, I will be able to tell you whether I intend to rejoin Bullets or not, but for now just know that am training with the team,\u201d Nyirenda said.<\/p>\n
He could also not comment on reports that he would be going to South Africa to hunt for a Mvera League side.<\/p>\n
But technical director, Billy Tewesa, confirmed that Nyirenda would return to the club after agreeing personal terms.<\/p>\n
Tewesa said the player had expressed interest to rejoin the club and was welcomed into the team\u2019s fold.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been discussing with him on the possibility of a return for a couple of months now after he told us that things are not rosy in Zimbabwe, starting when Caps United came in the country for the Zambezi Challenge Cup,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe told him that Bullets is his home and he is welcome anytime he feels he wants to return.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tewesa also added that the technical panel had already recommended him to the authorities to discuss personal terms and facilitate paperwork so that he becomes eligible to play by the time the second round starts in August.<\/p>\n
According to Tewesa, Nyirenda will return to his base in Harare next week to collect his belongings, ending a one-and-half year romance with Makepekepe, as Caps United are fondly called.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s obvious that he will rejoin the team as a free agent because his contract expires this month and he has come at a right time when we were considering making some reinforcements in key departments such as the defence where he fits in well\u201d.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda\u2019s transfer to the Zimbabwean giants was embroiled in controversy after he claimed he was a free agent whilst the People\u2019s Team insisted they were entitled to a share from his deal because he had a valid contract with the team.<\/p>\n
It was upon the intervention of the Football Association of Malawi that the former Dwangwa United player was cleared to join Caps United.<\/p>\n
Fam Transfer and Club Licensing Manager, Casper Jangale, said he was aware that the Malawi international returned home.<\/p>\n
\u201cI met him during the match between Wanderers FC and Bullets last Saturday, but I cannot speculate on whether he intends to rejoin his former club or not.<\/p>\n
\u201cI cannot comment on whether his contract with Caps United is expiring this month because these are private and confidential matters,\u201d said Jangale.<\/p>\n
Apart from George Nyirenda, the People\u2019s Team are also set to re-sign one-time red hot forward Diverson Mlozi, who is training with the team after returning earlier last month from Swaziland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
