{"id":53342,"date":"2017-09-12T09:14:28","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T07:14:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=53342"},"modified":"2017-09-12T09:14:29","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T07:14:29","slug":"two-groups-through-to-superior-drama-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/09\/12\/two-groups-through-to-superior-drama-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Two groups through to Superior Drama contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two groups from the Northern Region\u2013Oneness Arts Theatre and Astrovaganza \u2013 on Sunday cruised to the national finals of the K5 million Superior Drama competition after successfully outclassing other groups in the regional final.<\/p>\n<p>The regional competition was held at Victory Christian Temple Hall in Mzuzu.<\/p>\n<p>The Superior Drama competition is being driven by Superior Events Management in conjunction with National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam).<\/p>\n<p>The contest started with divisional finals before moving to regional finals.<\/p>\n<p>Ntam North chairperson, Steve Sambo, said it was an exciting contest and that judges included Mzuzu University drama lecturer Misheck Mzumara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe judges did their work well and the things they looked at in coming up with winners included language, costume, props, plot and story, script and creativity,\u201d Sambo said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sambo, four groups battled it out during the regional finals, including Mweluso, which came fourth, and third-placed Emaus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe attendance was good. More than 70 people patronised the show but we did not do enough publicity and we hope to do that next time. Looking at the performances, there is a lot of talent in the Northern Region and we are sure they will do well during the national finals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>During the competition, Anthony Gondwe from Oneness Arts Theatre emerged Best Actor while the Best Actress was Lucy Luwe from Emaus.<\/p>\n<p>Oneness Arts Theatre showed their strength during the competition when they also got the accolade of the Best Scene.<\/p>\n<p>Judith Chiumia represented the Mayor of Mzuzu City during the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Superior Events Management Director, Japhet Majekete, said they were satisfied with the results from the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are satisfied with the results and now we move to the Eastern region this coming weekend. We are happy with the performances from the drama groups and all we can say is that let the groups work very hard in their rehearsals,\u201d Majekete said.<\/p>\n<p>After Eastern region, the regional finals will move to the Southern and Central regions.<\/p>\n<p>The winner during the national finals is expected to walk away with K1.5 million, with second and third-placed competitors pocketing K750, 000 and K500,000, respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two groups from the Northern Region\u2013Oneness Arts Theatre and Astrovaganza \u2013 on Sunday cruised to the national finals of the K5 million Superior Drama competition after successfully outclassing other groups in the regional final.
