{"id":53282,"date":"2017-09-11T10:40:42","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T08:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=53282"},"modified":"2017-09-11T10:40:43","modified_gmt":"2017-09-11T08:40:43","slug":"vice-president-to-chair-african-food-security-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/09\/11\/vice-president-to-chair-african-food-security-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"Vice- President to chair African food security forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>M<\/strong>alabo Montpellier Panel has selected Malawi\u2019s Vice- President, Saulos Chilima, to chair this year\u2019s Malabo Montpellier Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The forum is a platform for decision-makers in government to review progress that is being made on the ground towards meeting key agriculture and food security goals across African countries.<\/p>\n<p>The forum, to start this November in Cotonou, Benin, will be co-chaired by Abdoulaye Bio Tchan\u00e9, Minister of State for Planning and Development of the Republic of Benin.<\/p>\n<p>Meetings of the forum are guided by technical reports prepared by members of Malabo Montpellier Panel and participants exchange ideas and strategies to foster positive change across all African countries.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released Thursday, Chilima said this is an opportunity for the country to learn from other countries on how to develop the agriculture sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am delighted to be co-chairing this forum to support the members of the Malabo Montpellier Panel and invited experts to make a real difference to the lives of people across Africa. We have an opportunity here to help realise the potential of the agriculture sector and learn lessons from the success we see all around us for a more prosperous future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The panel consists of 17 leading African and European experts in agriculture, ecology, nutrition, public policy and global development.<\/p>\n<p>Its work focuses on facilitating access to high-quality technical evidence to inform policy choices that accelerate progress towards the goals set out in the African Union\u2019s Agenda 2063, the Malabo Declaration and Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Malabo Declaration, adopted by 54 African governments in 2014, commits signatory countries to halve the number of people in poverty by 2025 through inclusive agricultural growth that creates job opportunities for young people and women.<\/p>\n<p>The panel supports the realisation of the goals by facilitating dialogue at the highest level around latest research findings and technical evidence to advance agricultural and growth strategies in Africa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malabo Montpellier Panel has selected Malawi\u2019s Vice- President, Saulos Chilima, to chair this year\u2019s Malabo Montpellier Forum.
