Two international acts\u2014 South Africa\u2019s Heavy K and Zambia\u2019s Organised Family\u2014performed in Blantyre at different venues but close to each other on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
Although the two shows attracted good audiences, they surely divided fans, with some moving from one venue to the other to sample all the two performances.<\/p>\n
Heavy K, a record producer and DJ, performed at Fifteen Sports Bar & Lounge, spicing up t h e venue\u2019s birthday celebration, while Organised Family entertained people at From Dusk Till Dawn a few kilometres from Fifteen Sports Bar & Lounge.<\/p>\n
Both Heavy K and Organised Family performed late.<\/p>\n
By 10:30pm, when The Daily Times <\/em>went to the venue, Heavy K had not yet performed as people were enjoying vibes which were being played.<\/p>\n The attendance was attractive and, by this time, people were still going in.<\/p>\n By the time Heavy K was performing, The Daily Times <\/em>had gone to another venue but, according to some fans, he jumped on stage at midnight, performing for close to an hour before DJ Nathan Tunes took over.<\/p>\n Being a DJ, the artist entertained people, showing his magic on the decks.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was good but what I noted is that most of the songs he dished out were from South Africa. It was all House music. I think as DJs here we should also learn to concentrate on our music,\u201d DJ Panther said.<\/p>\n Tay Grin, who attended the event, said he was impressed with Heavy K\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n Heavy K, real name Mkhululi Siqula, is well-known for songs such as \u2018Wena\u2019, \u2018Woza Nana\u2019 and \u2018Celebration\u2019.<\/p>\n Co-owner of Fifteen Sports Bar & Lounge, James Makunje Jnr, said they had a sold out crowd and that, even after allowing people to pay at the door, they reached the limit of patrons allowed to enter.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were very happy and Heavy K was extremely happy with the entire event. He is actually talking about coming back to do another show. His performance time was 12 midnight because he wanted the crowd to be at its peak,\u201d Makunje jnr said.<\/p>\n He then hailed people for their continued support to Fifteen Sports Bar & Lounge.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will strive to deliver unique and innovative events,\u201d Makunje Jnr said.<\/p>\n It is not the first time Fifteen Sports Bar & Lounge has invited an international act as, last year, they brought in South Africa\u2019s Zahara.<\/p>\n At From Dusk Till Dawn, Mingoli Band, led by drummer McDonald Muwawa, opened the chapter, dishing out several covers before they went on a break.<\/p>\n The group then came back and offered tracks as the audience waited for Organised Family.<\/p>\n Organised Family is not a strange musical group in the country as they have had several performances across the country.<\/p>\n But it was the first time for them to perform at From Dusk Till Dawn, where they showed their usual energy on stage, which is their number one strength.<\/p>\n \u201cIt felt as if it was our first time performing in Malawi. We are here also to promote our new song \u2018Mpunga ndi Chambo\u2019, Orga Kent said.<\/p>\n Orga Rex One said: \u2018Mpunga ndi Chambo\u2019 talks about a delicious dish which they always enjoy when they come to Malawi.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have a new album titled \u2018Don\u2019t Judge Me\u2019 and we also have another song titled \u2018Nyama\u2019. So people should look out for this album next month,\u201d Orga Kent said.<\/p>\n Orga Kent heaped praise on Mingoli Band, saying they were a good band.<\/p>\n \u201cWe only trained with them for a short time but they were good.
