{"id":53033,"date":"2017-09-06T08:50:15","date_gmt":"2017-09-06T06:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=53033"},"modified":"2017-09-06T08:50:15","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T06:50:15","slug":"blantyre-cyclists-shine-in-tour-de-dwangwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/09\/06\/blantyre-cyclists-shine-in-tour-de-dwangwa\/","title":{"rendered":"Blantyre cyclists shine in Tour de Dwangwa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>B<\/strong>lantyre Cycl ing Club\u2019s (BCC) three cyclists won all categories for this year\u2019s Tour de Dwangwa Cycling Race at Dwangwa on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Zomba-based Steven Nazombe grabbed first position in professional men\u2019s drop-hand category whereas Violet Mwanza won the ladies\u2019 mountain bicycle category.<\/p>\n<p>Missi Kathumba also from BCC triumphed in the men\u2019s professional category.<\/p>\n<p>The 90-kilometre race started from Kande in Nkhatabay to Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa.<\/p>\n<p>Nazombe, who has won the competition a record four times, attributed his latest feat to good preparations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, I finished on third position. But this year, I engaged an extra gear in my preparations, hence the victory,\u201d said Nazombe who received K120,000 and a TNM dongle.<\/p>\n<p>The competition, which attracted 200 male and female cyclists, is used as a fundraising activity by organisers, Dwangwa Round Table 69. Proceeds from the race support surrounding communities.<\/p>\n<p>Mayamiko Malenga, who chaired the competition\u2019s organising committee, said this year\u2019s race was a success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy that a lot of cyclists took part in the competition. The turnout was good and even the prizes that were presented to the winners were good. We hope that the competition will be back next year,\u201d Malenga said.<\/p>\n<p>Illovo General Manager, Lai Bachan, who was the guest of honour, said he was happy that funds realised from the competition would be used to transform lives of the needy around Dwangwa.<\/p>\n<p>Several companies sponsored the race with TNM being the main sponsors after pumping in K1.4 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blantyre Cycl ing Club\u2019s (BCC) three cyclists won all categories for this year\u2019s Tour de Dwangwa Cycling Race at Dwangwa on Sunday.
