Malawi Liverpool Welcome Trust (MLW) has said good clinical research is key for the improvement of quality health.<\/p>\n
Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU) Lead of the MLW Markus Gmeiner made the remarks on Friday during the official launch of the unit.<\/p>\n
The unit comprises four research departments of MLW which are Clinical Department, Pharmacy, Kachere Vaccine Unit and Research Governance.<\/p>\n
Gmeiner said the coming together of the four departments will enhance quality of all research projects MLW conducts in the country.<\/p>\n
He said it is now easier for researchers and participants to work together for the smooth operations of the projects.<\/p>\n
\u201cClinical Research Support Unit is here to support all the four departments of Clinical Department, Pharmacy, Kachere Vaccine Unit and Research Governance so that the research we do at MLW is of high quality and adheres to all the guidelines set by the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Gmeiner said outcomes of clinical research may change health policies and types of treatments people get in the country\u2019s health facilities.<\/p>\n
He noted that each and every drug or vaccination went through research process at some point.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach and every drug was a research project at some time. The Kachere Vaccine Unit has been doing all sorts of vaccine researches in the country. They look at health economic questions like what is the impact of the vaccines in terms of the cost for the Ministry of Health to implement them versus management of the diseases themselves,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In his speech Stephen Gordon MLW Programmes Manager said CRSU has to be conducting bigger and better researches if it is to continue impacting on the health of Malawians.<\/p>\n
On this note, Gordon appreciated some of the challenges such as space and shortage of personnel facing all the four departments of CRSU.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor us to continue improve the health of Malawians, we need to do bigger and better researches. We cannot work on everything but surely we will see what we can.
