The committee was appointed by delegates and their recommendations were made with the guidance of the synod’s legal advisor Victor Gondwe.

The Gac has therefore recommended that the Synod Executive, which comprises over 14 members, should meet and call for the disciplinary hearing. However, one of the church elders who asked for anonymity has told The Sunday Times that the ‘church disciplinary’ means suspension.

One of the church elders said the Synod faced disintegration “if the leadership cannot find lasting solutions’. While others were of the opinion that ‘suspending or disciplining’ the two was one of the best remedies, others argue that the leadership must engage more dialogue mechanisms to reverse the division in the church.

Margret Kawonga, one of the Women Guide members in the synod, said the synod’s moderator should not discipline the ministers but find best ways to resolve the matter within the church. But one of the church members Eliot Nyirenda from Nsongwe Congregation said disciplining the two might bring sanity into the church.

“Pera banthu batikumbanigza vinthu, tikuwasyegza mu sinodi [if the people are bringing confusion we are supposed to suspend them]. This law applies to everybody,” Nyirenda said. However, Moderator for the Synod Reverend John Gondwe asked for more time before responding to the matter. But Nyasulu said he is not aware of the development, arguing he left the deliberations earlier.

“If this is my fate then I do not have problems because one day I know it will bear fruits. “I am not afraid of getting suspended or disciplined. My conscious is very clear that I have done nothing wrong. I have requested the moderator to call for the Synod General Assembly for us to meet together and resolve our problems,” Nyasulu said.

Efforts to get Nyondo’s comment proved futile as he asked for more time before he could respond to the matter, but later switched off his mobile phone.

Meanwhile some church members say the wrangles have divided the church, in the aftermath of the 2016 election during which Nyondo won to earn himself a third term.

THE Livingstonia Synod of the CCAP General Administrative Conference (Gac) has resolved to discipline its General Secretary Reverend Levi Nyondo and University of Livingstonia Vice Chancellor Reverend Timothy Nyasulu for campaigning at 2016 synod’s elections and dragging the church to court respectively.
