THE National Registration Bureau (NRB) has said it has registered over 1.7 million people in the first phase of National Registration and Identification System.<\/p>\n
NRB spokesperson Norman Fulatira said the 1.7 million people who registered with the bureau in the first phase represent over 100 percent of the total number of people the bureau was expecting to register during the phase.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have surpassed our projection of registering 1.4 million people during the first phase and that is good for us because it shows that we are being successful as a lot of people are coming to register. Meanwhile, we are working on the figures of the second phase whose consolidation is complete, we are just following right procedures before we make the figures public,\u201d Fulatira said.<\/p>\n
He said the bureau will this week release figures of citizens who registered during the second phase. Fulatira sid the exercise is proving promising as people are coming in large numbers to register. \u201cWe are performing very well, the figures on their own show that we are on track as people are looking forward to have the national identity cards.<\/p>\n
People should know that this is a mass registration, so we are not leaving anyone behind. Even in the districts which we finalised the registration, we are leaving behind our gadgets so that those who failed to register can do so, so the exercise is still on across the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
