CENTRAL Region Netball Committee (CRNC) has assembled two select netball teams comprising players identified from Gateway Mall Netball Challenge.<\/p>\n
CRNC announced the select teams on Friday during a press briefing held in Lilongwe ahead of the Challenge finals scheduled from September 1 to 2.<\/p>\n
The under-21 and senior select teams will be playing friendly matches against their regional counterparts, CRNC General Secretary, John Mhajiri, said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe journey has been good since we started and we are looking forward to the finals,\u201d Mhajiri said.<\/p>\n
Sponsor of Central Region Netball League, Malawi Property Investment Company Limited, Marketing Manager, Ellen Nyasulu said the formation of the two teams was a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur objective is to develop netball but we are also happy because we have empowered the girl child through the netball sponsorship. As a company, we are glad because netball has greatly improved in the region,\u201d Nyasulu said.<\/p>\n
In the forthcoming challenge, eight teams will compete in regional finals. Defending champions, Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets, Mafco Soldiers and Green Sisters were seeded from the play-offs.<\/p>\n
Boma Sisters, Dowa Sisters, Kasungu Police and Kamuzu Barracks Lioness qualified for the finals through play-offs. This year\u2019s tournament started in April at the district level involving 10 teams.<\/p>\n
