Civil Sporting Club and Premier Bet Wizards want to make the most of the re-opened transfer window by beefing up their squads ahead of the TNM Super League second-round.<\/p>\n
Civil assistant Coach, Oscar Kaunda, Wenesday said they want to replace attacking midfielders Mphatso Zongololo, Francis Mkonda and Muddey Jeffrey, who quit the team recently.<\/p>\n
The players left due to various reasons.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are eyeing an attacking midfielder, who can score regularly, and a defender. We have lost three players but we might just get two replacements. So far, we are talking to Kamuzu Barracks over the possible signing of Kelvin Malikebu who has been training with us,\u201d Kaunda said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the defender, we might play some friendly games with lower league teams. I am sure we will spot a talented young defender. We need to perform better defensively. We are the highest scoring [25 goals] team in the Super League, but unfortunately, we have also conceded more [18 goals].\u201d<\/p>\n
Civil, who have gone on a week-long mid-season break, are smarting from Sunday\u2019s 2-1 loss to rivals, Silver Strikers, at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Some analysts questioned Civil\u2019s Tione Tembo\u2019s goalkeeping in the Lilongwe derby, but Kaunda believes it is about team-work.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we are to improve defensively, we need to do so collectively. Yes, we conceded in that game against Silver, but we also need to critically look at the source of the goals. Tione, alongside Victor Banda [another goalkeeper], did well in the nine consecutive games we were unbeaten,\u201d Kaunda said.<\/p>\n
Civil finished the first-round with 22 points from 15 games, 10 points behind leaders Silver.<\/p>\n
In Blantyre, Wizards owner Peter Mponda yesterday said they were also eyeing two players to bolster the right-wing and striking force.<\/p>\n
