Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) yesterday trained 25 musicians in stage management, performance and music dynamics in a workshop held at Monarchy Lodge in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Mum president, Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, said the training was aimed at enlightening the artists on what to expect from their fans and how to entertain them during stage performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cMusicians should know how to handle themselves and how to deliver in a better way. Malawi is underprivileged to a certain extent because we do not have as many schools of music as possible like in other countries. This is why we have moved a step forward to enlighten our musicians on what is happening elsewhere,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n
Mhango said such workshops help musicians to reflect on where and how to improve.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese workshops remind the artists who they are and also to sit back and reflect on where they are failing in order to be better,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n
The workshop started in Mzuzu where about 20 musicians were trained.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur next destination is Zomba then Balaka. We want to train as many musicians as we can especially those that are Mum members and have paid their subscription fee,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n
One of the participants, gospel songbird Ethel Kamwendo Banda, said the workshop was an eye opener.<\/p>\n
\u201cWorkshops like these are enlightening and they really help us [artists] to go forward with our music. I have learned new things therefore I won\u2019t be the same,\u201d Kamwendo Banda said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
