{"id":52092,"date":"2017-08-21T11:26:16","date_gmt":"2017-08-21T09:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=52092"},"modified":"2017-08-21T11:26:18","modified_gmt":"2017-08-21T09:26:18","slug":"minister-hails-japans-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/21\/minister-hails-japans-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister hails Japan\u2019s support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, has said the Malawi government appreciates the support the education sector gets from Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Msaka was speaking on Saturday in Lilongwe at a farewell luncheon for 20 Malawians who have been given scholarships to study in the Asian country.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships awarded include eight each under the African Business Education (ABE) Initiative scholarship and the Japanese Government Teacher Training Scholarship for Secondary School Teachers and four under Japanese Scholarship for Research Students.<\/p>\n<p>Msaka said the support complements government\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in a process of recruiting 800 Grade I and 400 Grade J teachers who will be joining the teaching profession in our public secondary schools. But we still need more teachers to beef up our increasing demand. I, therefore, applaud Japan for offering these scholarships to our teachers,\u201d Msaka said.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador of Japan to Malawi, Kae Yanagisawa, said the scholarships are one way of strengthening Malawi-Japan relations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith your experience studying in the highest academic institutions in Japan, you are all an important asset for change in Malawi. Also, you are binding Japan and Malawi through human network,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the recipients of ABE scholarship, Davie Moyo, said the knowledge he will gain in Japan would help in solving some of the problems Malawi faces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou may agree with me that Malawi is going through tough economic times. It is difficult to allocate enough resources for capacity building. It is important for us to get these scholarships. It is my belief that with the knowledge we will acquire, we will be able to address some of the challenges Malawi is facing,\u201d Moyo said.<\/p>\n<p>Another awardee, Elisha Chatanga of Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar), said the programme he will pursue, veterinary medicine, will help Malawi further in capacity building in the fight against animal diseases.<\/p>\n<p>The awardees are expected to start leaving for Japan from September to October this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, has said the Malawi government appreciates the support the education sector gets from Japan.
