BE FORWARD Wanderers are yet to replace their chairman, late George Chamangwana, three weeks after his death. George passed on late last month\u00a0 at Blantyre Adventist Hospital and was burried at Misesa Cemetery in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
The Nomads\u2019 board of trustees chairman, Rashid Gaffar, said he was consulting on the next course of action as regards George\u2019s replacement. \u201cWe are still in mourning right now. It will take us time to recover from that shock.\u00a0 It is something that broke our souls,\u201d Gaffar said.<\/p>\n
Asked to state what Wanderers\u2019 constitution provides for in such cases, Gaffar said the incident was the first of its kind at the club hence the need to consult thoroughly. But he said the team\u2019s operations are running normally despite the tragedy that shook the team to the core as George used to support the team with his personal resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is pleasing is that officials who are there continue to do a good job. That is why we are still in contention to finish the first round on top of the log table,\u201d Gaffar said.<\/p>\n
He promised to come up with a clear position on the matter after a week. With the demise of George, the next most senior administrator is vice chairman, Gift Mkandawire.<\/p>\n
Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, said Mkandawire is steering the ship well being a seasoned football administrator. \u201cGift is leading us well as we look forward to the next course of action on the club\u2019s chairmanship. He is someone who has been our chairman before and late George used to deputise him at that time,\u201d Butao said.<\/p>\n
The Nomads lost the first game they played after George\u2019s demise 1-0 to Nyasa Big Bullets. But they have gone on to qualify for the semifinals of the Carlsberg Cup and are one of the two teams likely to finish the first round at the top.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
