Silver Strikers have put their players and coaches on an insurance scheme and medical cover, in keeping with international football basic standards.<\/p>\n
Silver interim General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, confirmed last Thursday that the schemes were with effect from this month.<\/p>\n
Under the executive medical scheme with Masm, players contribute K3,000 each monthly with Silver remitting the rest of the amount. Some 32 players and coaches are covered.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a contributory scheme tied to the duration of their contracts. All coaches, save for the Technical Director, Young Chimodzi Senior, who has a personal arrangement for the same, are also on the medical scheme.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have just revived the scheme and it is with effect from this month. Our players are also on insurance cover and it is not contributory. The players are covered for injuries and eventualities outside the field of play,\u201d Nyirenda said.<\/p>\n
Silver Coach, Lovemore Fazili, on Wednesday confirmed the schemes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a very good development that will surely motivate the players to work hard, knowing that they are covered,\u201d said Fazili, whose team won the Airtel Top 8 Cup and is in the hunt for the TNM Super League gold.<\/p>\n
The first beneficiary of the Bankers\u2019 medical scheme could be left-back Thoko Stambuli, who is down with a recurring right leg injury.<\/p>\n
Stambuli confirmed that he was waiting for a meeting with a doctor. The injury has ruled him out for the better part of the season.<\/p>\n
The players are also entitled to a maximum of K5 million cover under Nico Insurance as compensation for injuries.<\/p>\n
Super League of Malawi Treasurer, Tiya Somba Banda, whose office pioneered the medical cover a few years ago, on Wednesday said only Civil Sporting Club, Masters Security and Blantyre United are yet to introduce medical schemes for their players.<\/p>\n
