Six local basketball teams are today expected to leave for Zimbabwe ahead of the Harare Mayor\u2019s Invitational Basketball Challenge (HMIBC) to run from August 18 to 20.<\/p>\n
All the teams are from Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal), namely reigning champions, Central Knights, Cougars, Bravehearts, Lady Dynamites, Cougars Ladies and Bravehearts Ladies. The teams will travel by road.<\/p>\n
Bravehearts Chairperson, Griffin Kalua, said his teams were ready for the Zimbabwe challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not tourists and we want to bring gold medals. Our preparations have been good and all the players are in good mood,\u201d said Kalua, whose team lost 70-55 to Cougars in the final of King& Queen of the Court Tournament last Sunday.<\/p>\n
Cougars want to replicate their domestic form on the international stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are in the right state of mind and the players are hungry for success,\u201d Cougars Board Member, Tendai Banda, said.<\/p>\n
The tournament will also attract teams from Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana.<\/p>\n
Cougars are in Pool A alongside Harare City Hornets, Southern Mavericks, Midlands Sate University and Looters whereas Bravehearts are in Pool D comprising JBC, Glenview Rockets, Savio and Troopers.<\/p>\n
The Hornets and Cougars\u2019 match will potentially be exciting as the Harare side lost to the Lilongwe team in March.<\/p>\n
Knights are in section B alongside Foxes, Matero Magic (Zambia), Mercenaries and Francistown Flames (Botswana).<\/p>\n
In the ladies\u2019 category, Dynamites, Cougars, Magic, The Weekend Squad, Lakers and Vixens are in Pool B whereas Bravehearts are in category A alongside Mavericks, JBC, Dolphins, Midlands and Hornets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
