{"id":51836,"date":"2017-08-16T08:49:53","date_gmt":"2017-08-16T06:49:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=51836"},"modified":"2017-08-16T08:49:54","modified_gmt":"2017-08-16T06:49:54","slug":"grittahs-glitters-with-more-gigs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/16\/grittahs-glitters-with-more-gigs\/","title":{"rendered":"Grittah\u2019s glitters with more gigs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After hosting 2014 Sunbird Search for a Star winner Adrian Kwelepeta\u2019s <em>Live or Die Story <\/em>album launch and former BBA housemate CO Sangala recently, Grittah\u2019s Camp in Lilongwe has lined up more shows.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend, the venue hosted Krazy Colours \u2014an all-girl rock band from Chilinde Township. Youthful group Mbanaye is expected to launch their <em>Odi EP <\/em>on August 25.<\/p>\n<p>Located at CCDC in Chilinde, Grittah\u2019s Camp was idle for 10 years until it was re-opened last September. The place now hosts live music events weekly.<\/p>\n<p>Grittah\u2019s Camp proprietor Neil Nayar said Malawi has many good artists in jazz, acoustic music and rock, hence the need for a venue to promote such kind of music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my experience of traveling in southern Africa, Malawi is actually quite good when it comes to jazz and acoustic music, rock as well. Since there are so many artists who play this music well, why is it seldom heard on the radio?\u201d Nayar quarried.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cAt Grittah\u2019s, we love all kinds of music, the point is that without a stage and a platform, the music scene won\u2019t grow. That\u2019s why we have Grittah\u2019s\u2014to push things forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA current rebranding, so people should think of it as a \u2018Music &amp; Arts Venue\u2019 rather than a bar, means it\u2019ll be looking even more gorgeous for the launches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the place is a music and art space where street art and paintings cover the walls, hence it is located far from bottlestores.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe response so far has been great and I just want to thank everyone for coming to support the shows. We are promoting a lot of artists from the local area and need your continued presence at the gigs. Feel free to suggest any artists you wanna see performing at Grittah\u2019s,\u201d he appealed.<\/p>\n<p>So far, Grittah\u2019s Camp has hosted many artists including Nyasa Music Award winner Malala, Sir Paul Banda, Kwelepeta, George Kalukusha, JJ Munthali and Dan Sibale, Sally Nyundo, Martse, 3rd Eye, Deo, Kaka, Blasto, Sagonjah, Moto Buu, Groovers, Old is Good, Daughters Band and Madalitso Band.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After hosting 2014 Sunbird Search for a Star winner Adrian Kwelepeta\u2019s Live or Die Story album launch and former BBA housemate CO Sangala recently, Grittah\u2019s Camp in Lilongwe has lined up more shows.
