{"id":51789,"date":"2017-08-15T10:58:12","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T08:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=51789"},"modified":"2017-08-15T10:58:12","modified_gmt":"2017-08-15T08:58:12","slug":"fam-website-hacked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/15\/fam-website-hacked\/","title":{"rendered":"Fam website hacked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) website is down after being hacked by a Moroccan group, linked to terrorists, for reasons that are unclear.<\/p>\n<p>An attempt to log onto <em>www. fam.mw <\/em>is greeted by a message: \u201cHacked by Moroccan Islamic Union-Mail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fam Competitions and Media Manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, confirmed Monday that the website has been inaccessible since last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are waiting for technical advice on the way forward,\u201d Zakazaka said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The hacking of the website compromises the association\u2019s efforts to piece together statistics such as the most capped player and top scorer for Malawi national football team.<\/p>\n<p>But Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, Monday said they had changed a password to protect the website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe discovered last week that the website was hacked. The good thing is that data integrity has not been compromised because we have back-up data and nothing has been lost,\u201d Nyamilandu said.<\/p>\n<p>Former Nyasa Big Bullets general secretary, Higger Mkandawire, who is also an information technology expert, Monday said hackers target organisations\u2019 information websites for use by competitors, to frustrate businesses and \u201calso check if they are successful in hacking when they have developed a software.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Flames are in the same Group B of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers with Morocco\u2019s Atlas Lions.<\/p>\n<p>The Flames, who will travel to Rabat next year before hosting the Atlas Lions, are second in the group with three points, at par with leaders Cameroon.<\/p>\n<p>The reigning African kings defeated Morocco 2-1 in Yaounde in June whereas Malawi beat Comoros 1-0.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Fam signed a K3.6 billion ($5 million) partnership with the Federation of Royal Moroccan Football (FRMF).<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, the Moroccan government will inject the money into infrastructure projects such as fitting an artificial turf at Luwinga Technical Centre in Mzuzu and natural grass at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Morocco announced plans to challenge Canada, the United States and Mexico in bidding to stage the 2026 World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Moroccan Islamic Union- Mail is an active group formed in 2014, according to <em>www.tracking terrorism.com <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Early this year, Russian group called New World Hackers also took down the Confederation of African Football website, telling the <em>BBC <\/em>it was done \u201cin protest\u201d against Gabon, the host of this Afcon\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) website is down after being hacked by a Moroccan group, linked to terrorists, for reasons that are unclear.
