Some farmers in Ntchisi and Dowa have hailed the impact of Integrated Production System (IPS) which is also known as contract farming, saying it has transformed their lives.<\/p>\n
This was disclosed recently as farmers from the two districts displayed their wealth accumulated from the project at Landirani Model School in Traditional Authority (T\/A) Kalumo in Ntchisi.<\/p>\n
The farmers, who are under contract farming through Alliance One Tobacco Company Limited, shared so many success stories during the displays.<\/p>\n
Limbikani Mandere from Nthesa Scheme in Dowa said through contract farming, he bought three cars, built three decent houses and paid school fees for his children.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince I joined contract farming in 2005, my life has changed. I am living a decent life and able to support my family without many challenges,\u201d Mandere said.<\/p>\n
He said in the just-ended tobacco season, he earned over K16 million in profits from flue cured tobacco.<\/p>\n
Godfrey Phaso of Khuwi Scheme in Ntchisi said he has benefited a lot from contract farming after buying three cars and livestock.<\/p>\n
\u201cI employ more than eight people every year to help me and I do not have problems in paying them because I earn more money after selling flue cured tobacco. I bought a minibus through farming which is generating money every day to cater for my family needs,\u201d Phaso said.<\/p>\n
El iford Chikuse also of Khuwi Scheme shared some success stories.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore I joined Alliance One contract farming, there was nothing I could show for my sweat. But now I am a successful farmer, thanks to Alliance One for transforming my life,\u201d Chikuse said.<\/p>\n
Alliance One, through IPS, provides the farmers with maize seeds and fertiliser so that their families are food secure.<\/p>\n
Through contract farming, farmers have access to inputs and have guaranteed market.<\/p>\n
Contract companies provide best varieties of seeds and advisory services from production to the market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
