With so many events lined up this coming weekend ahead of the independence celebrations, Kwathu Drama Group has not been left out as it will premiere a play titled Aneneri <\/em>which was co-written by musician Billy Kaunda and one of the group\u2019s longest serving member, Charles Mphoka.<\/p>\n

According to a press statement from the drama group, the play, which has a cast of 14 artists, will first be premiered at Mulanje View Motel on Saturday with the climax on Sunday at Blantyre Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n

The press release also indicates that Kaunda will be part of the cast but when contacted on Monday, the musician said initially this was the programme but he would not be available because of other engagements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a new story so to say because it has been there only that I decided to pass it on to Kwathu and Charles Mphoka put it together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mphoka also said people should look forward to the play in Mulanje and Blantyre, adding that this is a present to the people ahead of the independence celebrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cBilly Kaunda came up with the story and I have just fine-tuned it but it\u2019s a good story and I have to thank him for coming out,\u201d said Mphoka, who has written several plays for the group.<\/p>\n

Aneneri <\/em>is coming to the stage after Kwathu a few months ago also restaged their production titled Kulira Kwa Ana <\/em>which passed the test.<\/p>\n

Kulira Kwa Ana <\/em>is the group\u2019s fourth production and was the last production for the year 2014.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s director Eric Mabedi said recently that having turned 35 years this year they want to give more to Malawians hence dangling Aneneri. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a play with a big cast and we actually have all the actors that make Kwathu. As Kwathu we would want to tell a story as it is, so this is a real life story which basically talks about our day to day life with a focus on our spiritual life, we have prophets and several people of God who have a big responsibility of telling us how we will enter heaven,\u201d explained Mabedi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
