She exhibited 13 works during the exhibition.<br \/>\nLusako\u2019s exhibition was titled Through the Eyes of Lusako.<br \/>\nDuring the exhibition which was also attended by her parents, the visual artist managed to sell for artworks.<br \/>\nLusako in her speech thanked her parents for supporting her and promised to do more.<br \/>\n\u201cI just want to say thank you to my parents for being there for me and supporting me and giving me the encouragement,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nPatrons were impressed by the young lady\u2019s talent, and her parents went on to say that part of the money realised during the exhibition will be donated to an orphanage.<br \/>\nKambalu also said he was impressed with Lusako\u2019s talent.<br \/>\n\u201cThere is talent in the country but it needs to be supported. I am impressed with Lusako. As La Galleria apart from selling different works for artists, we also gather children and teach them art,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nLusako started painting at the age of 4.<br \/>\nWhilst in United Kingdom by the age of 7, she had already been chosen to represent her school in a competition.<br \/>\nAnd back in the country, she proceeded studying art whilst a student at Bishop Mackenzie School and then later Kamuzu Academy where for three consecutive years she won competitions for designing posters for drama.<br \/>\nShe has just sat for her IGSCE examinations.<br \/>\n\u201cArt is an outlet. When I feel like turning the world out and letting everything go, that\u2019s when I turn to art. It\u2019s what I turn to when I am happy, sad and bored.<br \/>\n\u201cThe feeling I get after making something, whether it\u2019s a painting or a drawing is something I can\u2019t explain. Painting and drawing are my ways of finding peace. It\u2019s more than just a hobby to me,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nHer catalogue of works includes World Aids, Dancing Lady, Sunset Leaves, Taunting Fate, Black Rose, Rainbow Flower, Trials Judgment, Weight of Inequality and Flowers For Dad.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lilongwe- based up-and-coming female visual artist Lusako Sikwese recently made history when she held her own exhibition at La Galleria.
