{"id":51562,"date":"2017-08-11T07:46:06","date_gmt":"2017-08-11T05:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=51562"},"modified":"2017-08-11T07:46:07","modified_gmt":"2017-08-11T05:46:07","slug":"musicians-union-of-malawi-tells-artists-to-be-disciplined","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/11\/musicians-union-of-malawi-tells-artists-to-be-disciplined\/","title":{"rendered":"Musicians Union of Malawi tells artists to be disciplined"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>M<\/strong>usicians Union of Malawi (Mum) has said musicians need to be disciplined in the way they go about their trade as well as be attractive to win the hearts of the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Mum President Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango said Thursday the music body will thus be conducting training workshops aimed at equipping artists with fresh skills.<\/p>\n<p>And Mum Saturday will be holding a workshop on music dynamics, stage performance and management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRebecca Mwalwenje from Music Crossroads and former member of Lusibilo Band alongside myself will be facilitating this workshop,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n<p>The Mum leader said through the workshop, they want to help fellow artists in areas of preparations, positive stage delivery and understanding what it takes for people to appreciate a performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA live performance involves a lot and that starts with artists being disciplined. These are the things which we want to tackle. This is the only way that we can become attractive and be able to pass our intended messages through music,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mhango said the workshop is being held with funding from Hivos through the Cultural Fund Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Hivos project is to do with the development of musical arts and other stage works for national development and upholding of our cultural values,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty participants from the Northern chapter are expected to participate in the workshop to be held at Mphatso Motel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Mum, we are thankful to Hivos for the funding which we believe will change the mindset of many musicians and we expect to hold these workshops in all the chapters,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n<p>Some artists, however, have complained that Mum does not involve all the artists when it is conducting such workshops.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) has said musicians need to be disciplined in the way they go about their trade as well as be attractive to win the hearts of the audience.
